The first Christmas Tree of Sobieszewo Island

9 meters tall Christmas tree, decorated with lights and ornaments will be put up on the roundabout at Nadwiślańsa and Turystyczna on Sobieszewo Island. The unveiling ceremony will take place on December 11th at 11.00, with the scouts passing on the Peace Light of Bethlehem.
Among the guests are: Piotr Grzelak, the Vice-President of Gdańsk, Father Maciej Kucharczyk of Our Lady of Salette parish, councilmen of Sobieszewo district, Volunteer Fire Department and scouts from local troops from Sobieszewo.

The Sobieszewo Christmas Tree is a part of the developmental plan for Sobieszewo Island, supervised by the City of Gdańsk as a part of preparations for the World Scout Jamboree 2023.

The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association (ZHP) bids for organization of the 25th World Scout Jamboree in Poland in 2023 on Sobieszewo Island in Gdańsk. The other candidate country is South Korea. The final decision will be announced by World Scout Conference in Baku in August 2017.

The World Scout Jamboree is the largest regularly held event organized by World Organization of the Scout Movement, gathering ca. 40 000 participants from all around the world. It is a primarily educational event, contributing to spreading the ideals of peace and understanding among the nations. The youth of all cultures and religions gets a chance to meet, experience a unique adventure and start new friendships. The participants must be members of organizations of WOSM and be 14-17 years old.
